Gold was found on the beaches above the high tide mark at Nome, Alaska. When this became news the good rush started in 1899. At this point of the Nome gold rush the population was10k and when the gold rush ended the population was 20k. Nome became the biggest town in Alaska. Many prospectors came from the Klondike, but also many from around the world arriving by boat. Worth a read if you have a minute for more detail in the Internet.
