Gold rush - Chile
Chileans, Argentines and Europeans flocked to Tierra del Fuego which is an area of islands at the bottom of South America. The gold rush started in an odd way, a French Steamship ran aground and a rescue party found gold on the one way to people stranded. The gold rush started in 1883 and ended in 1906. Some of the prospectors stayed and became sheep farmers and fishermen. It is interesting having a look at the area on Google maps. Type in Zanja a Pique.
